Our ethos:

Beckley Preschool and Northiam Nursery aim to provide activities and equipment in a relaxed and happy atmosphere so that children will progress in all areas of development and become independent in preparation for school. We believe that a child's first experience in a learning environment should lay a good foundation for their enjoyment of education and discovering new experiences.

Our aims are to:

  • Encourage our children to become independent and confident learners.
  • Enable them to take increasing responsibility for their own learning. E.g. to confidently ask questions and choose their own activities.
  • Encourage our children to have enjoyment within their learning that will increase their self-esteem.
  • Meet our children's entitlement to effective teaching and meeting their individual needs.
  • To provide high quality early education and childcare.

When planning activities for your child we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework [EYFS].

The principles of the EYFS, which guide the work of all early years practitioners, are grouped into four themes:

A Unique Child - every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Positive relationships - children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

Enabling Environments - children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and carers.

Learning and developing - children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

All activities and routines at Beckley Preschool & Northiam Nursery will help your child to achieve the statutory goals.

In order to monitor their progress each Child is allocated a key worker who will chart their progress through an assessment journal. These journals can be seen by you at any time and will be given to you to keep when your Child leaves Preschool/Nursery.
